Today's Youthful Sound - 2010Family Concert with the winners will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Rosa Hart Theatre. Youth Performance CompetitionThe Symphony sponsors an annual performance competition for young people in the five parish area. Two winners are selected to perform one movement from a concerto with the Lake Charles Symphony at the Family Concert. PurposeTo provide the opportunity for a solo performance with the Lake Charles Symphony to qualified young artists residing in the Southwest Louisiana Region. Date and Place of CompetitionSaturday, March 6, 2010 on the campus of McNeese State University. EligibilityContestants must be residents of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron or Jefferson Davis Parish currently enrolled in a middle or high school or home schooling equivalent. Age 18 or under as of Sunday, April 18, 2010. ProcedureA completed application form, including the signature of the applicant's current music teacher, along with an audition fee of $10.00, must be mailed to the competition address. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, February 12, 2010. No exceptions. Download the application form here: Youth Concerto Competition Application FormRepertoireInstrumentalists and pianists are expected to perform one movement of at least five minutes in duration from a standard concerto for the specific instrument. Vocalists must perform an aria of arias from the standard opera/oratorio of a total of at least five minutes in length. Works are to be performed from memory with piano accompaniment. PrizesTwo finalists and one alternate will be chosen. The two finalists will each receive a $100.00 cash prize and appear with the Lake Charles Symphony Free Family Concert at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 18, 2010.
